bury bach choir
This huge and truly spectacular work - involving three choirs, three conductors, three soloists and two orchestras - is not often performed. We urge you to book early. Follow the links to the booking page and select your seats. Alternatively book unreserved seats in the side aisles at £14 each. Because there are almost 250 performers in War Requiem, there'll be plenty to see from the side aisles!
The Bury St Edmunds Bach Choir, known to all as the Bury Bach Choir, was founded in 1932 to perform the great choral masterpieces, and is proud of its history and its central position in the cultural life of Bury St Edmunds. It was recently described by the East Anglian Daily Times as “a treasure for the town”. We celebrated our 80th birthday in 2012.
We give three major concerts each year with full professional orchestra and soloists, and also give a Christmas concert. Whether you are a choral music afficionado, or have just discovered classical music, you can enjoy the thrill of live music by coming to our concerts.
For details of our forthcoming concerts, and how to get tickets, go to the concerts section of this website. Our concerts are very popular, with audiences in excess of 400, so you need to book early to get the best seats.
We produce regular brochures and e-newsletters to keep you up to date with our future programme of concerts. To join our mailing list or our e-mailing list, please send this form or contact Graham Todd.
There is nothing to beat the experience of singing with a big choir. The Bury Bach Choir has over 100 active singing members and is fortunate to be able to perform in a number of beautiful venues – St Edmundsbury Cathedral, St Mary’s Church in Bury St Edmunds, St Peter and St Paul Church in Lavenham, Holy Trinity Church in Long Melford and of course the wonderful Apex in the centre of Bury St Edmunds.
We have some vacancies in all voices. Come and join us! We are an auditioned choir with a great track record and an ambition to be one of the best choirs in East Anglia. Full details of how to join are here. We offer a special rate for singing members under 26 years of age. If you would like to sing with the Choir, you are very welcome to contact our New Members' Secretary, Viv Bush.
